It is like you read my thoughts – Just what I was looking for!
I really disliked this episode. Sure I like some of the songs you play between stories, but a whole episode to that? That’s just not a Risk episode, it’s just a playlist. I’m in this podcast for stories not the music.
One thing that will never change is this: when we release a music episode, lots of emails, tweets, and comments will come in from people who are thrilled for another music mix — people saying things like, “I’m going to be playing this at barbecues all summer!” AND lots of emails, tweets, and comments will come in from people who are miffed that we would put out an episode without new stories in it — people saying things like, “Hellooooo?! Are you guys not aware that we’re here for the stories?!’
Every time, we explain the exact same thing. So here goes!
Most shows that curate and produce stories take time off during the year. Many NPR shows will even take a few months off and just run re-runs before returning with more stories. RISK! has been around since October of 2009. We’ve done our very best to keep bringing you new stories each week for nine years running now… but every now and then, we like to at least take a week “half off.” I say that we’re taking the week “half off” when we’re running a Best of RISK! or Best of RISK! Music episode, because, in fact, no one’s going anywhere. We’re still working 24/7/365 to track down, workshop, record, and edit new stories. But on the weeks we do BOR or BORM episodes, we can at least have a LITTLE bit of breathing room for spending more time on story prepping than on episode prepping.
It’s not news to us that fans of RISK! are fans of RISK! because of the stories. That said, we’re incredibly proud of the way the podcast has always been a celebration of colorful, dynamic, off-the-beaten track music that complements and enhances the range of thoughts and emotions we explore on the podcast. We feel that the Best of RISK! Music episodes are extraordinary compilations — brilliant, eclectic, and life-affirming, just like the rest of RISK!
Hi Henrique,
RISK! listener here. Just so you know, I LOVED this episode. The music is always excellent in this podcast as well as the content and I could not be a more satisfied listener. You have a whole archive of RISK! podcasts to go through if you don’t like this week’s episode. If you don’t like it, start Henrique’s Podcast for Snobs and do all the work yourself. bye
I just have to say – this is the best playlist yet. I don’t have wifi at work to stream Spotify, so this is just what I needed.
Perfect. I love discovering new music through Risk.
Hi! Long term listener here. How can I submit music to Risk!?
Hey Jim! Just email kevin@risk-show.com. Thanks!
I love the RISK! music compilation episodes and this is one of the best yet! I added the songs into an Amazon Music playlist for those of us without Spotify. Enjoy.

Just want to throw in my two cents that I LOVE the music episodes. I always find a new favorite, or am reminded of an old favorite that I haven’t thought about in years. If you’re not into the music episodes, I guess just hit “skip” and enjoy the extra two free hours you have for the week.
