LISTENLisa Cooper Ellison is a metalhead who grew up in a Buddhist community where she chanted, worked for world peace, and rocked out with other Buddhists who also loved to brandish their devil horns. She lives in Charlottesville, Virginia where she works as a trauma-informed writing coach. Lisa won the 2021 HippoCamp edition of the Lancaster Story Slam. Her essays have appeared in the New York Times, HuffPost, Hippocampus Literary Magazine, and Kenyon Review Online, among others.
